Rembrandt Hotel and Suites Hotel Overview

The Rembrandt Hotel and Suites prides itself on being a well-respected accommodation in Bangkok. They are rated as a 4-star hotel with large rooms, excellent location, and services to meet most travelers’ needs.

Where is the Rembrandt Hotel and Suites Located?

The Rembrandt Hotel and Suites is located in the Sukhumvit area, which is very popular with travelers and expats. The actual address is 19 Sukhumvit Soi 18 and Soi 20, Klong Toei, Bangkok. There are 2 buildings as part of the Rembrandt and this will play a part in the confusion of my taxi driver.

Transportation To and From the Hotel

Once I arrived at the Bangkok Airport, I requested a taxi from the stand near the exit doors. The young lady assisting me had a difficult time finding the correct address for the hotel.

The tail of an airplane as it flies into Bangkok airport.

Before I left home, I made a screenshot of the hotel’s address in English and in Thai. The problem seemed to be that this hotel had 2 buildings with separate addresses and they were not sure which one was correct. Putting my trust in the driver to get me there, I told the woman to have the driver bring me to the main hotel. We would figure it out from there.

The Bangkok Traffic

My first introduction to Bangkok traffic was on the ride from the airport to the hotel. Highways and on-ramps and off-ramps loop in every direction trying to circulate the traffic all around the city. Instead of helping ease traffic congestion, it seemed to make it worse.

The busy congested streets of Bangkok with lots of cars, taxis, motorcycles, and people.

In the 8 days I stayed in Bangkok, I never saw normal flowing traffic until well past the city outskirts. You must be patient and expect to sit in taxis or buses until the traffic moves. Patience is definitely a virtue here.

Arriving at the Rembrandt Hotel and Suites

After a nearly 45 minute drive, where we sat in traffic near the hotel for the last 15 minutes, we finally arrived. This delay was due to the hotel being located off one of the most popular streets through the city. The driver brought me to the main hotel entrance and helped get my heavy luggage out of the trunk. The porter escorted me in to the reception desk and told me he would take care of my luggage. It felt nice to have everything taken care of. I was tired.

This actually was the incorrect hotel and the one I reserved was situated just behind and to the right of the building. Rembrandt Hotel and Suites consisted of the Hotel building, which is where I was dropped off, and the Suites building. The Suites is where I booked my room. Time for a quick walk to my hotel building.

Getting to the Correct Rembrandt Hotel and Suites Building

The porter walked with me and rolled my large suitcase and carry-on while I carried my backpack. I appreciated not having to worry about moving my huge suitcase with 3 months worth of personal items. The hotels are connected by a covered driveway and we arrived at the correct hotel reception desk in 2 minutes.

I noticed a ramp and steps with a railing leading up to the main entrance to the hotel. Reception faced the door and was a quick few steps to get to the desk and check-in. Two elevators stood to the left of the reception area at the end of the seating area. The porter took charge of my bags and informed me he would deliver them to the room soon. Check-in was quick and painless. I  headed up the elevator to the room within 5 minutes.

Amenities Offered at the Hotel

The hotel offers many amenities, some of which were important to me and many that weren’t. There’s something here for every kind of traveler. This list of amenities is from the website for the hotel.

The Rembrandt Hotel and Suites – The Pros and Cons

Every hotel has their pros and cons based upon the person staying there. These pros and cons are according to my preferences and opinions, so take them as you will. I offer full honesty here and am sugar-coating nothing.

Pros (according to me)

Here are the features or services that meant the most to me, or made me happy I chose to stay here.

Room Design

The room definitely was large and spacious as they stated. Separate spaces for sleeping, relaxing, and even making tea or coffee created a pleasant feeling of roominess. A king size bed should have been a wonderful treat, but more about this bed in the Cons section. Storage was plentiful with two wardrobe sections with a safe, an iron, and ironing board. My smaller items found a home in the drawers underneath the TV cabinet.

Room Service

My fascination with room service started the first night. By the time I arrived to my room I was exhausted. I flew from Boston to London to Bangkok within 24 hours and just needed a quick bite to eat and then sleep. The room service menu offered plenty of options.

Rembrandt room service menu

Directions on the menu stated to call a specific number on the phone, but it never worked. So I just called the front desk and they relayed the message. Room service called me back in 1-2 minutes and took my order. The food arrived within 10-15 minutes piping hot and arranged beautifully on a tray.

I called room service at the hotel about 5 times during my stay and their food and prices were perfect. For 5 different orders, my charges totaled approximately $70. Definitely worth checking out.

Location

The Rembrandt Hotel and Suites is in an excellent location. A one minute walk to the main road led to restaurants, bars, or shops along the street. I also walked to Emsphere Mall which only took me less than 10 minutes of slow walking. Several metro stations close by open up the rest of the huge city of Bangkok for you to explore.

Noise Levels

The hotel was tucked down a longer driveway/road that connected to the other street and the Hotel building. Perhaps this helped with the noise levels, but it was wonderfully quiet. I was also on the 29th floor, so all noises were at a minimum up there. Hallways were quiet and nobody ever made too much noise that I noticed.

Service and Staff

Both the service at the hotel and all of the staff were wonderful. The hotel and my room were spotless, except for that weird stain on my chair. More about that coming up in the cons.

Everyone rushed to help as soon as they saw a guest. Whether it was opening the door or helping to carry luggage or bags, the staff went above and beyond. Room service staff delivered hot food and even set up the tray wherever you wished to eat. Top notch staff and service.

Assistance With Tours and Activities

Inside of the main lobby of the Hotel building along the covered driveway was a Tour Desk. Here they will assist you with booking tours or activities inside of Bangkok or outside of the city. I booked 4 tours during my 8 days in Bangkok. They were 1 small group tour, 1 bigger group tour, and 2 private tours. The tour desk employee arranged pick-up at the hotel lobby and wrote out all details for me. Their help made it much more enjoyable.

Price of the Rembrandt Hotel and Suites

Although this is not a discount hotel, I found the price to be reasonable for the service and location. My room in the Suites Building was about $71 per night and my room service bill added $70, for a total of $569.00 USD.

Cons at the Rembrandt Hotel and Suites (for me)

These are the few things that I thought were a negative, and except for the bed, found ways to deal with the “issues” easily.

Comfy Beds

This isn’t necessarily a hotel issue, but I find most beds in Asia are too hard for me. The king size bed in my room was no exception. Whatever you do, do not run and jump on the bed. You might break something!

The very firm king sized bed at the hotel.

Beds in Thailand, Laos, China, and even Malaysia have been too hard for my liking. In general, Asians believe a hard mattress is better for your back and promotes good sleep. For me it promoted a backache and a hard time falling asleep a few nights.

The Stained Chair

The armchair in my room by the window had an unsightly stain on the back. It looked like someone wearing hair oil rested their head there and stained it. This definitely grossed me out but I wasn’t going to not use the chair.

I simply placed one of the hand towels across the back and then sat down to eat or read. The chair was quite comfortable. Please Rembrandt Hotel and Suites, either replace the chair or try and have it steam cleaned.

Bathroom Tub Access

I absolutely loved the large spacious well-lit bathroom. The only part I didn’t like was a lack of separate shower. In order to take a shower you needed to step into the bathtub, and the sides were very high.

The high-sided tub in the bathroom of the hotel with the shower inside of the tub.

I could have asked for a handicap accessible bathroom, but I didn’t think it would be an issue. If you are unable to get into the tub easily, please do not hesitate to ask for a different room. The hotel will accommodate you if possible.

My leg was feeling fine during my stay so I found a way to make it work. I simply sat my butt on the edge of the tub and then swung my legs into the tub. Getting out was the same process. I placed a hand towel on the edge of the tub to first absorb any water so I didn’t slip off butt-first. That would not have been pretty.

Restaurant or Cafe

There was no cafe on the premises of my hotel building. Since this was Bangkok, finding a cafe was not a problem. I just would have preferred to not leave the building to get a morning cup of coffee. Shout out to The Coffee Club across the street from the Rembrandt Suites building. I spent many hours here enjoying cappuccinos and a few breakfasts too.

The sign for the Coffee Club across the road from the hotel in Bangkok.

The only restaurant listed in the hotel is a Mexican restaurant, and that is in the other building. I used to eat plenty of spicy foods, but at this time cannot handle them. Some other options would have been nice. Thank goodness for the extensive room service menu.

A quick statement saying that this is just my opinion and based on my needs. I cannot eat large meals at one sitting. Spicy food is also difficult for me, yet I have been slowly adding spices back in and it’s been good so far. The food I ate was delicious and just prefer a larger variety to choose from.

The Breakfast Buffet at the Rembrandt Hotel and Suites

The breakfast buffet was served by the pool and looked delicious, but the only option was the buffet. For the price they were asking it was too much money for what I can eat for breakfast. The cost was 900 baht which is nearly $25.00.

One day I did tell the lady I couldn’t possibly do justice to the buffet and just wanted a coffee, fruit, and a croissant. She charged me a fair rate and that is what I ate that morning. Most days I walked over to The Coffee Club.

Costs for Staying at the Rembrandt Hotel and Suites

I’ve stated what my costs were for the hotel room I stayed in, but there are a multitude of options to choose from. From smaller single rooms, to full family suites, there is something here to match your needs. Prices range from under $70 to thousands per night for large suites, and longer stays may get you a discounted rate according to their website, which you can access here.

If you are looking to stay here yourself and would like assistance with your stay, please contact me and I can help get you booked in.

Hotel Recap for Accessibility

I found the Rembrandt Hotel and Suites to be well-suited for those with limited mobility. Railings on the entrance stairs helped after a long day out on an excursion. I was also extremely pleased to find railings on the steps to get into and out of the swimming pool. My room was close to the elevator and the elevator itself was not too far from the reception desk.

The only accessibility issue I had was the high-sided bathtub. This situation could have been handled better if I had called and asked for a walk-in shower, but I chose not to. If you need a walk-in shower, please do not hesitate to ask for that accommodation. Or have your travel agent, like me, book that for you if requested.

The hotel is centrally located and walking to restaurants, cafes, or stores takes less than 10 minutes. If a ride is preferred, then have the front desk call a taxi for you or call for a Grab ride. Download the app before you arrive.

Honest Opinion of My Stay at the Rembrandt Hotel and Suites in Bangkok

My opinion of the Rembrandt Hotel and Suites its completely based on my own personal preferences and needs. Take my thoughts into consideration if you want to when making the decision to possibly stay here. If not, then that’s all good too.

I was honestly very comfortable staying here. The staff and everyone else I met while there were so kind and helpful. My room was cleaned daily and suited my needs. It was close to the elevator, spacious, had excellent air conditioning, and room service was just a quick call away.

The Separate Buildings of the Hotel

The two separate hotel buildings were confusing and many of the amenities were located in the other building. It was just a minute or two away, but I would have preferred knowing this beforehand. There was never any specific brochure or listing of the amenities and restaurants available in the second hotel building given to me when I checked in.

This truly didn’t bother me too much since I booked several excursions that took me away from the city for the whole day. With my inability to walk for long periods of time, I took the days in between my excursions for resting and relaxing. Overall, I enjoyed my 7 night stay. And the room service menu was to die for!
